Pacific peoples receive honours in New Year's list

Pacific peoples from across the country have been recognised for their contributions to the community, sports, arts, education, health and music sector, in the New Year's honours list.

The recipients include former All Black legend Tuifa'asisina Bryan Williams, who has been made a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to rugby.

Valeti Finau of Wellington receives an honour for her services to education and the Pacific community. 

Producer for the Pacific Media Network Kiribati radio language programme Tabo Kiakia, Charles Enoka Kiata of Auckland, will also receive honour for his services to the Pacific community.

Suitafa Dr. Deborah Ryan has been recognised for her services to the health sector. The former Chief Advisor Pacific Health, Ministry of Health has been made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit.

Minister for Pacific Peoples Aupito William Sio says the recipients have made an outstanding contribution to the Pacific community and says the Pacific community will celebrate in their success.

The recipients are:

Knight companion of the New Zealand order of Merit (KNZM)

Tuifa'asisina Bryan George Williams, CNZM, MBE, for services to rugby

Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM)

Sharon Wilson-Davis, for services to the community

Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM)

Dr. Palatasa Havea, for services to the Pacific community and the dairy industry

Suitafa Dr Deborah Ryan Nicholson, for services to the Pacific community and health

Professor Kabini Fa'ari Sanga, for services to education and the Pacific community.

Ms Petrina Marie Togi-Sa'ena, for services to Pacific music

Honourary

Mrs Valeti Finau, for services to education and the Pacific community

Mr Charles Enoka Kiata, for services to the Pacific community

Mrs Sereana Comeke Phillipps, for services to the Fijian community

Queen's Service Medal (QSM)

Mrs Foumana Alene-Tumataiki, for services to the Niue community and education

Mr Filipo Lui, for services to the Tokelau community

Mrs Mii Hinarere Tupangaia, JP, for services to the Cook Islands community
