Auckland Councillor Fa'anana Efeso Collins is urging council to ensure South Aucklanders are properly informed on the proposal to divide Manukau into two single wards.

Boundary changes in Manukau, Waitematā and central Auckland open for public consultations today.

Councillor Fa'anana who voted against splitting the Manukau ward, says the council needs to engage and better inform South Aucklanders about the proposed changes.

"The status quo serves our community well. I'm not sure what's to be gained and I don't believe there was a strong case to tell us what's to be gained," he says.

"Auckland Council has failed to engage Māori and Pacific communities and communities out south. We've got to ask ourselves, 'Can we trust the feedback?'. The key point is for people to have their say."

People can submit their opinions online by visiting the Auckland Council website.
