One of the pioneers of Cook Islands language learning says it is time the programme was available in primary and intermediate schools.
Retired teacher Mama Tupou Manapori says pre-schoolers thrive at early childhood education centres but there is nothing for them until they reach the senior schools.

The former Manukau City Councillor called an urgent meeting in Auckland this week to discuss the issue and mend the growing fragmentation between local community leaders and teachers.
"The community doesn't include the teachers and we never get told what they're doing as far as the Cook Islands language is concerned," says Manapori.
"When our pre-schoolers and early childhood kids finish and move to primary, there's no Cook Islands language there," she says. "It's a must that we have that connection."
